Hattie’s portfolio

My work aims to capture the everyday. Connections between people are the main source of my inspiration; I endeavour to recreate moments in time, whether it’s a conversation between friends or a quiet moment someone spends alone. I sketch from life and take photographs as I walk around the city, using these as inspiration for paintings in the studio. My colour palette is often limited; I find painting in monochrome hugely rewarding, often painting large studies quickly to test ideas for composition. Recently, however, I have been challenging myself to use a more diverse range of colours.
