Alice Taylor’s Portfolio

‘My work is inspired by the landscapes of home. I make paintings from sketches created on location, combined with the memories I have of the place and often think about the works as postcards for the places I have sketched. I find it helpful to have the distance that bringing sketches into the studio allows for interpretation. I enjoy the way these works can hint at a larger landscape within an intimate size. For all my works, but especially on a bigger scale, I love how paint lets me create different forms and feelings by changing the direction of a brush stroke, thickness of paint or the amount of pressure applied, and how much can be said with one colour by varying these elements. All of my paintings are my way of observing and celebrating nature.’
